The question is does the song make the moment special or does the moment make the song? This could easily be argued both ways. You can hear a song for the first time and have it remind you of something from your past. The moment may have meant something to you, but it truly wasn’t special until you heard that one song that made all the pieces just fit. And you could also have a single event occur that is forever linked to a song. It could be that the song was playing at that one particular instant and the emotions of that instant are fused with that song. Or it could be that a particular song pops into your head during an emotionally driven event.
Personally I have had the moment make the song special. Shortly after my father passed away we were discussing songs to play at his funeral. One song in particular just popped into my head. It was a song that I knew my dad liked. It fit him so well. Whenever I hear it I think of my father. The humorous line in the song is so like my father’s humor. I suggested playing the song at his funeral, but I don’t think my mom and brother heard what I said. When they asked me to repeat myself I suddenly didn’t want it played. So I said never mind. At the moment I didn’t realize it, but now I do. That song was special to me and I didn’t want to share it with anyone else. I will share it with you now. The song that always reminds me of my father is The Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton.
I ask you this, what song do you have a connection to and why is it special?
